The Do it Yourself Version of CBD e-liquid
Let’s start with a bit of English! DIY stands for “do it yourself,” which means “self-made,” and CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, a hemp molecule with a relaxing effect.

This means that you can prepare your own CBD e-liquid by acquiring the different ingredients:
- CBD Booster to add cannabidiol to your mixed concentrate
- also called flavor, to bring flavor to the PG/VG base for
- allowing the evaporation of your DIY CBD e-liquid through your electronic cigarette. A PG/VG base consists solely of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG).
A graduated empty bottle to measure each ingredient is useful. To learn more about CBD, read our comprehensive guide to define CBD.
Why make your own CBD liquid?
Producing your CBD liquid is very economical
Making your CBD liquid is much cheaper than a finished product. To convince you, let’s do the math! This concrete example, with products all available in our online store, shows a lower rate of 47% for a homemade preparation compared to a pre-mixed CBD e-liquid.
Imagine you want to buy 50 ml of Amnesia CBD e-liquid from Marie Jeanne CBD. Get your calculators ready!
For the pre-mixed 10 ml Amnesia Marie Jeanne e-liquids, the total amount for students is €284.50.
Calculation details: The 10 ml Amnesia Marie Jeanne CBD e-liquid with 600 mg of CBD costs €56.90 at the time of writing this guide or €284.50 for 50 ml.
If you make your own Amnesia Marie Jeanne CBD DIY e-liquid, the total amount will be €151.40. Calculation details:
- 1 Amnesia concentrate: €6.90
- 3 CBD Boosters 1000 mg: €45.90 X 3 or €137.70
- 1 Marie Jeanne PG/VG Base: €4.90
- 1 graduated empty bottle: €1
Making your Amnesia CBD e-liquid at 600 mg is therefore 47% cheaper than ordering pre-mixed e-liquids.
By making your CBD liquid, you set the rate!
Do you want an intermediate rate of 250 mg of CBD? This option does not exist for a pre-mixed e-liquid. Nothing stops you from letting your DIY CBD blend by yourself!
Make your e-CBD liquid to adjust the taste 100%
You can adjust and mix the flavors you like, as nothing prevents you from mixing different flavors together. In a way, you can prepare the cocktail of your dreams!
Do you want a strawberry flavor with a hint of blackcurrant? Although this e-liquid probably doesn’t exist in a pre-mixed 10ml version, you can easily make it yourself by buying these 3 concentrates that you will dose to your taste!
Are you more of a light or strong flavor person?
You can adjust the flavor intensity that suits you exactly. Our advice is to use no more than 15% flavor in your finished DIY CBD liquid. The best thing is to start at a rate of / -7% and gradually add the concentrate if the taste is not strong enough.
Are you a heavy CBD user?
Then it’s obvious, if you vape CBD all day, you won’t want to bother with 10ml bottles. When you make your DIY CBD liquid, you can easily prepare a large quantity of e-liquid.
Are these benefits not interesting to you? We advise you to prioritize other types of CBD e-liquid. After seeing the advantages, let’s look at some existing disadvantages.
The risks of making your own CBD e-liquid
You regret your flavor mix
Making your own e-liquid requires concentration and a minimum of knowledge regarding ingredients and dosage, which can lead to tasting an unpleasant liquid. Are you a fan of 3 flavors and decide to make 100ml of e-CBD liquid by mixing your 3 favorite concentrates? Are you sure you will like the result?
You are tired of your flavor
To save time, you are often tempted to prepare a lot of DIY CBD e-liquid to be quiet for a long time. This is not a problem in itself, but it means that for several days or even weeks, you will only have one taste. It’s up to you to determine if this is satisfying for you.
You added too much CBD
If you are handling solutions that you will inhale, you need to be very precise in the doses, especially regarding the CBD boosters that contain included cannabidiol. This last element provides the relaxing effect. Did you make a mistake by adding 2 bottles of boosters instead of one? Be careful, your liquid will be twice as strong!
Are you a flavor enthusiast?
All DIY vape fans will tell you. Wait a few days before vaping your e-liquid! The flavors will be rounder and more complex. This is also the case with a DIY CBD e-liquid! Even if there is no danger to your health, the taste will not be optimal if you vape your mixture immediately. We recommend letting your preparation sit for 1 to 3 days for simple mono flavor types and 1 week or more for more complex flavors.
Hygiene and safety
You will be dealing with various ingredients that should not be contaminated to ensure the high quality of your DIY CBD e-liquid. We recommend thoroughly washing your hands and possibly wearing gloves. After all, do not work in dust or too much pollution.
Also, remember that you will be using CBD, a completely legal substance, which, however, should not be taken by anyone other than you (children, pets…). It is therefore strongly recommended to store all your ingredients in sealed cabinets.
Does making your CBD liquid seem too cumbersome? No problem! We have a temporary solution called CBD’mix. Learn everything you need to know in this guide to have a low-cost CBD E liquid.
The ingredients to make your CBD e-liquid
We mentioned above that there are three basic ingredients to make your vaping e-liquid.
What PG/VG base for your DIY CBD e-liquid?
The PG/VG base contains propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). It is the PG/VG base that allows your e-CBD liquid to evaporate through your electronic cigarette. It has no taste.
Vegetable glycerin is a thick substance that is necessary for evaporation due to the resistance of your CBD electronic cigarette. It produces vapor and adds roundness to the taste of your CBD E liquid. VG has a slightly sweet taste.
Propylene glycol is liquid. It allows you to get the flavors of your e-liquid at their best. It is propylene glycol that produces the hit, or the sensation felt in the throat of the vaper (similar to what you feel when inhaling the smoke of a tobacco cigarette).
The value of the PG/VG base is expressed in the ratio of PG/VG X/Y type. The sum of X and Y is always equal to 100. For example, a PG/VG base of 80/20 contains 80% propylene glycol and 20% vegetable glycerin. Since VG is more viscous, the thicker your base will be, the more VG it contains.
Which PG/VG base should be chosen to make CBD e-liquid?
Choose a base containing less than 30% vegetable glycerin, either PG/VG 70/30 or 80/20 base.
Why? Because VG and the CBD molecule crystallize upon contact. The main disadvantage is that you will wear out your resistance much faster.
The Concentrate
These are the concentrates that will give your mixture intensity and flavor. There is a very wide range of concentrates for CBD liquid, and you can even mix them together!
CBD Booster
With a capacity of 10 ml, the CBD booster contains cannabidiol in high concentration. The two most common are the 500 mg and 1000 mg boosters.
Accessories for dispensing your DIY CBD E liquid
Graduated empty bottle
This is the accessory that seems essential to us. A graduated bottle allows you to dose your ingredients but also serves as a final container for your e-liquid. The labeling of a graduated bottle for DIY CBD liquid is indicated in ml (milliliters).
Syringe
If your empty bottle does not have a label, we recommend dosing the various ingredients with a graduated syringe.
Beaker
The beaker is a graduated container that allows you to dispense the different elements of your DIY CBD mixture. A beaker is usually made of pyrex glass.
Storage accessories
We recommend keeping your equipment and vape products out of reach of children, pets, and at-risk individuals. A bag or storage case is a great way to keep all these products in one place.
We are talking about an accessory, but one important point remains: the electronic cigarette! Click the link below to access our CBD e-cigarettes directly.

Effects based on the amount of CBD
To achieve the desired level of CBD, you need to dose the amount of CBD boosters to use in your DIY CBD liquid. This amount depends on the final quantity of CBD liquid you wish to receive. For more details on dosages, see the “Dosage” section.
Light effect
From zero to 20 mg per milliliter (mg/ml), this is a low intensity that can be used for daily vaping. If you do not have any particular sensitivity to cannabidiol, the stress-relieving and relaxing effects will be mild.
Relaxing effect
A dose of 30 to 40 mg per milliliter equates to a medium intensity. You can also use it daily, but less frequently than a low dose. With this type of dosage, you will clearly feel the relaxing effect of cannabidiol.
Intensive relaxing effect
At more than 50 mg per milliliter of mixture, the dosage is considered strong. The relaxing effect of cannabidiol is then very noticeable. We recommend using it only for more intense situations.
Dosages
To communicate the exact dosages of each element, we have created a detailed PDF file that you can download for free below. Do you want the objective opinion of a vaper who used CBD? Check out Alex’s review of CBD E-Liquid.
Should I let my DIY CBD e-liquid rest?
In technical jargon, we will talk about “Steeping,” a resting period, the maturation of your DIY CBD liquid. Maturation is not mandatory. You can pretty much vape your DIY CBD e-liquid immediately after making your mixture.
However, as mentioned earlier, there is also a maturation period if you want to get the most out of the flavors of your concentrates. Letting it steep allows the flavor base and the CBD booster to properly infuse the complexity of the flavors of your concentrate and develop specific flavors. It’s a bit like wine! An e-liquid that has a considerable maturation period will give a rounder and stronger taste. A mixture that has just been prepared will be less refined but more aromatic.
How long can I let my DIY CBD e-liquid rest?
Our experience allows us to share with you these maturation periods: four days for simple flavors, suitable for mono flavor types. If you prefer to go for tobacco flavors or scents based on various aromatic sources, we recommend keeping your preparation for at least 7 days before vaping.
How can I store my DIY CBD E-Liquid?
To best store your e-liquid, we recommend not storing it near a heat source or in direct sunlight.
What precautions are there?

Finally, let’s take one last piece of advice: CBD, which comes from hemp, has an undeniably calming effect. If you vape a mixture with a high concentration of cannabidiol too often, you may develop a form of mild drowsiness. It is therefore not advisable to drive or engage in activities that require precision and strong concentration.
Even if we repeat ourselves, keep all your vaping products in a place where children and pets cannot access them. Vaporization products cannot be sold to minors.
